Founded in 1904, Sapataria do Carmo, one of the oldest and most charismatic stores in Lisbon, reports with some nostalgia to the past. The name in iron letters outside, the tidy windows, the velvet sofas and the old numbered boxes are fixing the world of this ancient space.

It is a small but very charming centennial house that has always been dedicated to the sale of Portuguese shoes of superior quality. Nowadays, it’s not only a shoe store but also a great icon of character and elegance.

For 3 generations, Sapataria do Carmo always belonged to the same family - Paulo da Cruz. In 2012, the "shoes business" has re-emerged with a new, young family in management. Four entrepreneurs, all from the same family. The new leadership decided to maintain the tradition of footwear of excellence, handmade, of national manufacture.

After several years dedicated to improvement and development, the little shop with character, has become an authentic centenary brand. In addition to the next door store - "Shoes You" by Sapataria do Carmo, now Sapataria do Carmo has three more locations:

Sapataria do Carmo - Rua do Carmo, 89

Sapataria do Carmo - Campo Ourique

Sapataria do Carmo - Funchal

The stores "Sapataria do Carmo" will preserve the unique decorative features of the store: "where it all began", from Largo do Carmo, nr. 26 - since 1904.

Come and visit us in Funchal and in Lisbon: at Rua do Carmo, Largo do Carmo and Campo Ourique.

In the beginning of the autumn of 2014 the great passion for shoes, especially for those that are handcrafted in the north of the country, materialized in a new space, door-to-door with the Sapataria do Carmo - Shoe You by Sapataria do Carmo. Formerly it was a small accessory store in leather and cork, and it is now an extension of our favorite, daring and less formal models of our centenary shop.

Right in the heart of Lisbon, in our charming Largo do Carmo, you will find the two shoe stores literally hand in hand, a true gallery where you can get carried away and fall in love with the best Portuguese brands, feminine and masculine shoes.

Shoes You reflects the taste and quality of Sapataria do Carmo for classic and timeless models, with a hint of the "must-have" concept for the most fashionable ones.

Sofia and Denis, Alexandra and João Pedro: with different tastes and inclinations, opposite languages and cultures and different ages, they had to become a "whole" when the destiny gave them the opportunity to enter the fascinating world of footwear. The decision was unanimous and instantaneous: to maintain the main characteristic of the emblematic store: Portuguese shoes of the best quality.
